WVU Tech to participate in statewide "College Application and Exploration Week"

West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech) is partnering with Riverside High School (RHS) to celebrate the state’s third annual “College Application and Exploration Week.” On Wednesday, October 3, WVU Tech officials will be available on the RHS campus to assist high school students with their college applications and answer questions about financial aid options.

“We look forward to this opportunity to collaborate with one of our local high schools in an effort to increase excitement and an understanding of the college application process. We will also have financial aid representatives available to help students explore scholarship opportunities,” explained Reeta Piirala-Skoglund, WVU Tech’s director of admissions and recruitment.

Carolyn Long, WVU Tech’s CEO, and Dr. Paul Hill, West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission Chancellor, will be visiting the RHS campus at 1:00 pm to meet with students. “These students are our future. We’re excited to be assisting them in realizing their full potential and all available postsecondary education options,” Long said.

Governor Earl Ray Tomblin has proclaimed October 1 through 5, 2012 as “College Application and Exploration Week” in the Mountain State in an effort to assist more students in preparing for education and training beyond high school. The initiative is coordinated by the College Foundation of West Virginia, a collaborative effort led by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, in conjunction with the West Virginia Council for Community and Technical College Education, the West Virginia Department of Education and the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts.
