Stephen Holcomb wins the Outstanding Accounting Senior Award for West Virginia University Institute of Technology

Stephen Holcomb, an accounting major and December 2009 graduate, was recently selected by the WV Society of CPAs as the Outstanding Accounting Senior for West Virginia University Institute of Technology. His selection was based on both his outstanding credentials and academic performance. As a recipient of this prestigious award, David Hill, President of WV Society of CPA’s presented Stephen with a plaque and a check for $250.

Stephen is a National Honor Student. He graduated as Valedictorian from Clay Christian Academy and has been on WVU Tech Dean’s List, the National Dean’s List (2006-2007) and in Who’s Who among Students (2006-2007 & 2007-2008). Stephen is also a recipient of a Promise Scholarship, the Mercedes Benz Drive Your Future Scholarship, and a Golden Bear Scholarship.

Stephen interned at the WV Office of the Insurance Commissioner, Fraud Investigation Unit, during the 2008-09 academic school year. After graduation (with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and minor in Fraud Examination) Stephen plans to attend West Virginia or Marshall Universities to obtain an MBA with emphasis in Accounting and Finance. He also plans to start a multi-product photography business in West Virginia.

Stephen says this about his success: “I am the first in my family to graduate from college. I graduated from a very small school, Clay Christian Academy, and was part of a small graduating class. I want to emphasize that it doesn’t matter how large or how small of a school a person attends, it only takes one person to make good grades and succeed. I worked hard for what I achieved, and I want people to know where I came from because I am proud of it.”
