Business & Industry Experts Lend Hiring Tips to WVU Tech Students

West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech) will host an expert panel of employers during a special “Get Hired” event on Thursday, October 10, at 1:00 pm in the Student Success Center. The 13-member panel features employers from across the state with professional backgrounds representing a variety of majors including accounting, business, chemistry, health service administration, mechanical engineering, nursing and sport management.

“These professionals have graciously agreed to come to campus to provide students with insight on interviewing, resume writing and more,” explained Jen Wood Cunningham, interim director of student support services and event organizer. “We want our students to be prepared to accept their next challenge as they begin their professional careers.”

Panel representatives include: Doug Damron, CDI; Barbara Douglas, WVU Tech; Gary Facemyer , Hatch Mott McDonald; Skip Lineberg , Spilman, Thomas & Battle, PLC; Tara Martinez , WV Women’s Commission; Tom Minturn , Chick-fil-A; Julia Mitchell , Gibbons & Kawash, A.C.; Tim Mueller, WV Power Baseball; Tim O’Neal, Dow Chemical; Andi Reedy , WV Medical Institute; Greg Shrewsbury , Jacob Engineering; JoEllen Zacks , Charleston Area Alliance; and Chris Zuspan, Dow Chemical.

“This is one of the many great events offered by our Student Success Programs aimed at enhancing our students’ overall college experience,” said Richard Carpinelli, dean of students. “At WVU Tech we are committed to providing our students every opportunity to succeed.”

The program will also include an informal Meet & Greet session at 12:30 pm prior to the panel discussion. All WVU Tech students are encouraged to attend. Cunningham added, “These are skills that students can also use to find an internship or co-op.”
