On Friday afternoon the campus will gather for CEO Carolyn Long’s annual State of Tech Address. Following the campus address, guests will celebrate the 2013 Alumni of the Year recipients at a banquet in their honor. This year’s recipients include James E. Smith, Jr., ‘86 from the Leonard C. Nelson College of Engineering and Sciences and Barry Pearson, ‘96 from the College of Business, Humanities and Social Sciences. “We’re looking forward to welcoming back generations of Golden Bears for an exciting weekend,” said Tara Hines, ‘03, WVU Tech alumni director. “We’ve got lots of family-friendly events planned and activities for all ages.”

Saturday’s activities include the Tech Golden Bear Alumni Association (TGBAA) meeting, superhero tailgate and homecoming parade. The 2013 Parade Marshal is Tim O’Neal,’97. The 2013 Crown Bearers are David Bubash, son of alumna Kaci Foster, ‘03 and ‘04, and Camryn Williams, daughter of alumna and current Tech employee Tina Williams, ‘99.

As WVU Tech SGA President and chemical engineering major Amy Haddix explained, “Homecoming is a time for students to show off their creativity and school spirit. The parade allows organizations to showcase their creative talents. The game unites the student body as we cheer on our Golden Bear athletes.”

The Golden Bears will hit the court in the Neal D. Baisi Athletic Center. The women’s team faces Point Park University at 2pm and the men’s team takes on University of Cincinnati Clermont at 4pm. New to this year’s homecoming activities is the alumni basketball game at 6pm. The TGBAA will be sponsoring an alumni reception during the alumni basketball game.
