WVU Tech Hosts Dinner Theatre Featuring the Charleston Light Opera Guild

On Thursday, October 17, the West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech) campus will be transported to early nineteenth century France as the Charleston Light Opera Guild (CLOG) presents a preview performance of the international classic musical Les Misérables. The dinner theatre event beginning at 6:30 pm is sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs and is free for the entire WVU Tech campus community.

The musical is based on the novel by French poet and playwright Victor Hugo. It presents the story of Jean Valjean, a burly French peasant of abnormal strength and potentially violent nature and his quest for redemption after serving 19 years in jail for having stolen a loaf of bread for his starving sister’s child.

A French-inspired dinner will be served in the WVU Tech Ballroom prior to the event. Featured performers from the Guild will perform several numbers from the musical and will conduct a Q&A session with the audience after the performance.

“We’re thrilled to be able to offer this type of cultural event on our campus,” explained WVU Tech Dean of Students Richard Carpinelli. “Our students are really looking forward to the performance.”

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, WVU Tech will accept donations during the event on behalf of the Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) Foundation for breast cancer treatment and screening.
